Ithaca’s Clock Makers

Ithaca, NY

Birthplace of the American Calendar Clock

I decided to compile a physical record of not only the history of the Ithaca Calendar Clock Company, but on a broader basis, information on every aspect of Ithaca’s contributions to the Calendar Clock Industry. It is an in depth analysis intended to entertain historians, guide collectors as well as repair shops, AND for the first time, document the mechanical's as to how these clocks actually work

This 256 page, full color “Techno - Historical” publication encompasses that concept.

*For the Historian*

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

There can be no stronger testament of history, than the eye witness. Theory and supposition of events are born of analysis, rather than experience. Because of the nature of the topic, and subject matter of this book, with the exception of two newspaper articles, there is scant little written. All the participants have long passed, save the words of one. Harry Dean was the last surviving employee of the Ithaca Calendar Clock Company. There exists a recorded interview with him. With sight gone, yet memory strong, his experiences were recorded in his 95th year.

Herein is the transcript.

1940’s - 1950’s repair label.
His name also appears on many backboard repair dates listed as H Dean, ICCCo.
